Have you seen the movie Concussion? It is the riveting true story of Dr. Bennett Omalu, played by Will Smith, and the NFL.
Dr. Omalu discovered, at his own expense, that concussions in football actually give players brain damage. And the outcome is that it destroys their lives. They lose the ability to sleep, to remember, to regulate moods, and more. Some become violent, and many have become suicidal.
And further, the NFL knew about this, and did not disclose this with players at the time. But like the big tobacco companies, once the truth could no longer be denied, the NFL changed their position. This movie, which is excellent by the way, makes it graphically clear that the repeated concussions sustained in football, result in many players eventually losing their minds - they experience attacks of rage, inability to focus, remember, or sleep, all symptoms of a damaged brain - and it's usually the frontal cortex that sustains the most damage - the part of the brain that makes us most human, involved with decision-making, planning, etc, 'executive functions'.
After football, they go on to become very much like war veterans, unable to live a normal life. According to one study: 28% of professionals foot-ball players are affected.
Here's the trailer for Concussion (2015). It is a powerful movie, and one of Will Smith's best roles, in my opinion.
The future of healing is already being practiced. It called Integrative Medicine (IM), and it is an integration of allopathic (western) medicine, with evidence-based holistic medicine. To my knowledge, the first Integrative Medicine training program is still being taught at the University of Arizona headed Dr. Andrew Weil.
This is sometimes also called "P4" medicine: as in preventive, predictive, personalized and participatory.
I see the future of medicine including the following:
As cannabis medicine comes to the fore, hemp-extracted CBD will be increasingly popular, since it contains almost no THC, and is therefore non-psychoactive, yet still has amazing health benefits!
Non-psychoactive CBD reduces inflammation, reduces anxiety, lowers blood sugar, reduces seizures, helps with sleep, improves skin conditions, and may even reduce tumor size and be cancer-preventive.
The question is, how can one medicine do so many things? Here I’m going to share two complementary views of how one medicine can do so much: 1) the evolutionary view, and 2) the science view.
It is not hard to see that delusion is everywhere on planet earth: the religious all think their religion is the only path to God, greed is a delusion that it is creating huge poverty, racism is a widespread collective delusion, and so is the objectification of women.
Delusion is the atmosphere we live in today. The truth is we are just beginning to wake up - we don’t yet have clear, discerning minds that can easily tell truth from lies.
So with all that delusion going on, we can safely assume that we aren’t yet able to easily discern a real spiritual teacher from one who just wears the clothes and talks the talk.
"Worrying only attracts to you what you're worried about"
Do you worry? If so, you're not alone, as many people worry. And don't think this has anything to do with YOU. Worry is a natural result of being sensitive being in the world as it is today - often what we're feeling and getting drawn into isn't even ours, it's energy coming at us from the world in all it's pain and confusion.
Worry is not your natural state. And like everything else that is unnatural to us, it can completely be changed. But doing so will take diligent effort - you are really training your mind, and your body, since they are one. See this as mind-training - or a path of self-healing/self-transformation, because that's what it is.
With that in mind, here's a few simple solutions that can really help:
"We will ultimately transition from owning animals, to being stewards of the animal kingdom. We will become true caretakers of the earth. And we will do this with great wisdom."
An that increased understanding towards animals means we will not take them into our homes. We will not have 'pets'. Read on and you will see what this cultural trend costs both society and the animals we love.
I have been single a long time. As of now, it's been 11 years. And at about 5 years into single life, I go frustrated with the situation and I began learning from dating coaches online. Here in this article I share some things I have learned from focusing on this area of woman and dating for the last few years.
I've seen both. Today technicians are in abundance, and healers are sorely needed.
So what is the difference? A technician, in my definition, is someone who isn't really going beyond their training. They stick to the protocols they were shown, don't generally have an intuitive sense of the body (because they weren't taught to appreciate it's wisdom or ways), and may even buy into fear-based views like, 'The brain doesn't make new brain cells after a certain age'. They work from their intellect, which is useful, but isn't the full range of their abilities - because we all have intuition.
In contrast, healers have an intuitive sense of the body, how it works, and they may even do awareness practices, like meditation. Healers also *trust* their intuition and work to develop this with things like meditation, shamanic states or even plant medicines. Plus they don't fear the natural world, or things like death or child-birth. They have faith in life, and they know that they don't *know* anything. They realize that whatever learnings they have are just a mental map, and a map is never the territory.
YOU WOULD THINK that sex in the 21st century, would be more...in the light. But the truth is, sex has only recently started to come out of the closet.
I wrote this mostly for healers, activists, and concerned people who want to understand better why our world is the way it is today. And we really can't do that without looking at sexuality in our world today, especially the HUGE problem that still goes on, daily: the sexual abuse of children.
5% of religious leaders are sexual predators who prey on children.
5% of religious leaders are sexual predators. Thats 1 in 20. This is according to FBI meta-data I found online. This is mostly men, and they mostly abuse boys, but also girls. One man will abuse as many as 30 children in his lifetime, often for years.
So here's the low-down: According to FBI meta-data I found on Google, (and this fits with my other sources and observations), And yes, this is a present day statistic.
