Have you seen the movie Concussion? It is the riveting true story of Dr. Bennett Omalu, played by Will Smith, and the NFL.
Dr. Omalu discovered, at his own expense, that concussions in football actually give players brain damage. And the outcome is that it destroys their lives. They lose the ability to sleep, to remember, to regulate moods, and more. Some become violent, and many have become suicidal.
And further, the NFL knew about this, and did not disclose this with players at the time. But like the big tobacco companies, once the truth could no longer be denied, the NFL changed their position. This movie, which is excellent by the way, makes it graphically clear that the repeated concussions sustained in football, result in many players eventually losing their minds - they experience attacks of rage, inability to focus, remember, or sleep, all symptoms of a damaged brain - and it's usually the frontal cortex that sustains the most damage - the part of the brain that makes us most human, involved with decision-making, planning, etc, 'executive functions'.
After football, they go on to become very much like war veterans, unable to live a normal life. According to one study: 28% of professionals foot-ball players are affected.

1. See your doctor and get some blood work done. Find out your B12 level, your Iron level, and instead of testing your vitamin D level, just start taking vitamin D (the vitamin D test here in Canada is $60. Vitamin D itself is maybe $12.). If you find that you are B12 or iron deficient, or even on the low end of the scale, consult "Dr. Google", and likely you will want to supplement them.
*Note: RDA and OPA are not the same. RDA is the minimum amount to avoid getting a disease of deficiency. OPA, or *optimal* amount, is way, way higher. To create health, you may need closer to the OPA than the RDA.
