One of the best articles I ever read on the brain was about the brain in Alzheimers. It discussed 4 'Brain types' that show up as Alzheimers. This blog contains excerpts on those 4 brain types (in blue), followed by my comments on each.
As you can see above, Alzheimers is not a virus. Alzheimers is life-style driven, and that is mostly poor dietary choices.
If its good for your body, it's good for your brain. Keep it simple and start by doing what's obvious: do you eat 3 or more servings of colourful veggies a day? Do you move your body enough? Walking is a great start! Do you keep the junk food to under 10% of your diet? Do you read labels and notice how much sugar is in things?
Supplements can be very helpful, but they won't outweigh an unhealthy diet.
So take steps in the direction of better health in general. Eat more vegetables. Move your body more - walking is good, so is dancing, tai chi or chi gong (my Dad likes aqua-fitness, that's in a pool). Stress less and play more. Eat more fish. And do things that work your brain: like take a course, or even better, learn to play an instrument. You get the idea. These are obvious, common sense things. Have fun. Live a healthy lifestyle.
If it improves your body, it is also improving your brain. If it helps you sleep better, or have more energy, your brain is being improved too. Go for slow, gradual changes instead of big extreme changes. Slow, gradual changes tend to be more sustainable.
Also if it improves your gut function, it will improve your brain function too. You brain runs on the nutrition that your gut provides. So if your gut isn't working right, your brain can't work right. A lot of bloating or gas means your gut isn't working right. Cut back on refined foods, cook more yourself, and see a nutritionally trained health professional if you need to.
