I battled candida for a long time. It would go away, then come back. So I eventually got creative and asked myself, "What the frick is going on here?? What can I do to end this?" Here's some of my answers...
1. Make Love, Not War
War is never wise. So instead of just attacking the candida with garlic, oregano oil or what not...instead focus on loving your body in all ways. So - do you need Vitamin D? Is your bedroom too dark? Have you been feeling down a lot? Everything that weakens you, makes you more susceptible to candida over-growth. Making war on Candida is very different than aiming to nourish and love your body and create health. Do everything you can to heal yourself, and start with what's obvious or what you're drawn to do. As you support your body, your body will handle the candida. You have an immune system, that's it's job.
2. Color Energy
Color is very powerful. Color can calm, ground and energize us. I have come, over the years, to really respect color energy, as I have gotten more sensitive. I will no longer hang out in a place that is too much white, for ex, since I will get more and more spaced out. And what does Candida love? A body that is drained, spacey, weak. Btw: orange (and amber too) is a color that helps restore energy to the digestive system, like a tonic. And green or turquoise can be great for calming anxiety. One thing is sure, in any healing process, you want be building and containing energy, not losing it.
3. Eat Warming Foods
Candida overgrowth is a condition of excess dampness and excess cold. So you want to stay warm, and eat foods that are warming. (Cold cereal or cold smoothies in the am may not be a good idea). Grains can also be damp...listen to *your* body. Cooling foods are sweet foods, like fruit and sugar. You want to go the other way and do things like garlic (fiery), cayenne, warming spices like cinnamon (good for sugar cravings), and pepper (warming and stimulates digestion. You get the idea.
4. Breathe, Baby, Breathe
Candida is an anaerobic organism - which means it prefers weight-training. Kidding :-). Actually anaerobic means Candida thrives in a low-oxygen environment. So doing things like yoga (where you send oxygen into every corner of your body), or jogging or hiking outside, will accelerate your bodies ability to take in oxygen, and help you to detoxify and reduce candida over-growth.
5. Essential Oils
Essential oils are the immune systems of plants. They are potent and full of anti-bacterial, ant-fungal, anti-oxidant qualities and so on. You can even put a drop of two in a shake, or even just a glass of water. Google "anti-fungal essential oils" for more about that. You will find that there are many with anti-fungal and immune boosting properties, and many ways to use them. Having a diffuser in your room can also boost your immune activity, according to studies, and is very inexpensive.
6. Supplements to Improve Digestion
Like digestive enzymes, HCL, or bitters. Or just take apple cider vinegar before meals.
7. Supplements to Boost Immune System
It's your immune system that normally keeps candida in check. For this one, take Vitamin D (2000-3000 iu a day of D3), Vitamin C, or there are other options, like Reishi mushroom. Also stop eating what depresses the immune system, namely sugar.
Are you starting to get how many other ways there are to heal Candida beyond just diet and supplements? There are MANY! I really wanted to add, "Make Love" to this list, and "Dance", but that's probably because that's what I'm craving, myself. The truth is: if it turns your body on, if it makes you feel alive, then it's also helping your body take care of candida. We know that the body cannot manifest illness when prana is distributed throughout the body.
But mostly I recommend starting with what's obvious.
